Originally from the former Soviet Union, it mainly inhabited the waters of the Black Sea, including the Caspian Sea, and was introduced to China in 1993. The Russian sturgeon is characterized by its large size, high growth rate, and strong resistance to diseases. After artificial domestication, it has become a high-quality breed in ponds and reservoirs of industrial fish farming. The first sexual maturity of the Russian sturgeon occurs at 7-9 years, in females - 12-16 years, in males - 11-13 years.

The Siberian sturgeon is long, spindle-shaped, the height of which is 12-14% of its length. Its round lips are short and blunt. On the back there are 5 rows of bony plates, between these rows there are many small bony plates. The back is usually gray, light green or inky green with a nutty color on the sides and gray and citrine on the belly. The larva usually has a blue back and white abdomen. The growth temperature range is 18～25℃, the most suitable temperature is 20～24℃.
