This is a high-quality rare sturgeon of the highest economic value, scattered in the Heilong, Wusuli and Songhua rivers in China. The favorable temperature for breeding Amur river sturgeon is about 1~26°C, between the temperature of warm water and cold water. The largest fish can weigh more than 100 kg.
The fish has a long spindle-shaped body without scales and 5 rows of diamond-shaped bony lamellae on the back. The larvae are chondrosteal bony plates with spines. The color of the back is brown or gray, while the larva is black-gray, and all fish have a white belly. Amur river sturgeons have such features as a large body, a long lifespan, high larval survival rate and a fast growth rate. They are suitable for both evaluation and consumption and can usually be swallowed and grown in any fish pond or other artificial aquatic environment.
The natural Amur River sturgeon has a sexual maturity of 11~13 years, while the farmed fish have a sexual maturity of 7~8 years.
