It has two pairs of tentacles in front of its mouth and venter with the pair in the middle facing the front. It has sharp lips which are triangle-shaped. The left and right gill membranes are connected to each other, which is a quite distinct feature to tell the difference between the sturgeons and husos. There are two types including the long-lips and the short-lips.
Kaluga is a large carnivore fresh water fish of vicious temper. The larva mainly feeds on the benthic invertebrates, the crustaceans and small fishes, shrimps or insect larvas.
